Yes, upgrades are continuing, and somewhat sporadic thanks to exams and a visit back home, but going nonetheless. Colouring now actually works quite well, and more as it does in Lee Byron's original idea, and the backend system is getting upgrades to support custom colour schemes and proper distributed rendering where nodes can specialise in tasks (because PDF conversion is very specialised, for example).

Very nice! Comparing it to Byron's, one feature stood out: his produces asymmetric forms (not the colouring, but the outer outline). I like the organic asymmetric feel, but I can't for the life of me figure out how it's actually being calculated.

Yes, there are several aspects about Byron's graphs that I have yet to look at properly; he's spent slightly longer than three days writing a renderer, I'm guessing! I'm more focused on making LastGraph more customisable at the moment, though, rather than trying to copy him exactly.
